What Sound is That?

I had a class about music therapy while at the Behavior Health Center that sparked my interest to study different therapeutic techniques to utilize in my own practice. Art therapy was already one of my favorite ways to get my thoughts onto paper. I regularly encouraged my clients to also practice their creative side with their favorite handy crafts and journaling.

Music therapy is much the same in the sense that it helps to calms the mind,  only by using the sense of hearing  instead of our sight. The sound waves created with the notes played by the instruments and sang by the voices sends signals through the ear drum to the brain. Your nervous system can feel the sound waves and match their vibration.

By Listening to calming music your bodies rhythm  trys to mock the sound waves and calm us. Some just as listening to energetic music can hype you up.  Music therapy is very helpful with self-expression and correction of self-talk. It can soothe the mind when healing from verbal abuse and connect us back to self.

When meditating with different types of sound frequencies one can cause a healing rhythm within ones nervous system. It takes time to find the correct song to balance yourself with out practice, so write down which music calms you most.

This should be practiced regularly with the same style of music that allows your pain to calm the most. I enjoy starting with both ear buds in for about 30 minutes a day. Utilizing this technique to help motivate you with your least favorite chores is also favorable with many music therapist.

Music therapy can be perfectly paired with aromatherapy, herbal, physical, art and color therapy, to encourage your healing process to be a successful process.  Find an therapist near you here.
